  • Supermicro and Ericsson collaborate to bundle Edge AI platforms with 5G connectivity solutions.
  • Integrated solutions simplify deployment, leveraging low-latency 5G for retail, manufacturing, and healthcare.
  • Ericsson’s 5G features, like network slicing, enhance Supermicro’s diverse Edge AI infrastructure portfolio.

Ericsson Enterprise Wireless Solutions and Supermicro have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore combining their technologies into commercial bundles that integrate Supermicro’s leading-edge AI platforms with Ericsson’s advanced 5G connectivity. This collaboration aims to deliver unified solutions that simplify procurement and deployment, leveraging 5G’s low-latency capabilities to enhance Edge AI applications across industries such as retail, manufacturing, and healthcare.

Since AI is taking over more business tasks, it has boosted the need for Edge AI where pre-trained, generative, and agentic artificial intelligence models are used at a local level. In order to satisfy these applications, Supermicro’s infrastructure systems like fanless and 1U rackmount units offer fast, dependable data throughput just like those found in wired networks. Ericsson’s wireless WAN products offer complementary services, such as low-or-mid band indoor and outdoor adapters, 5G, and SD-WAN along with security appliances that support customer networks with several features.

“Supermicro delivers cutting-edge solutions that allow enterprises to harness the power of AI at the edge,” said Mory Lin, Vice President, IoT/Embedded & Edge Computing, and Supermicro. “Our compute platforms combined with Ericsson’s 5G technology will allow enterprises and public sector organizations to extend the reach of their AI applications where wired technologies are not a viable option, such as smart intersections, industrial manufacturing, and remote infrastructure.”

Jonathan Fischer, Vice President, Global OEM & Embedded Partners at Ericsson, added, “Ericsson has been transforming the WAN edge for almost a decade, allowing enterprises to connect anything, anywhere with speed and agility. We are excited to collaborate with Supermicro to extend this same speed and agility to the emerging Edge AI space. Together, we have an opportunity to make it easier for enterprises to operate edge intelligence.”

This partnership aims to enable rapid deployment of Edge AI infrastructure with robust wireless connectivity, empowering businesses to operate efficiently in diverse and challenging environments.
